His contact lens concentration included scleral gas permeable lenses for anterior segment pathology, such as, keratoconus, dry eye syndrome, exposure keratopathy, and post-surgical ectasias. He also received official training in additional specialty lens designs (corneal gas permeable lenses, specialty soft contact lenses, reform eyes for ocular disfigurement, and scleral shell prosthetic lenses).

Dr. Jaynes has been active in continuing education lectures to optometrists in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. His lecture topics included foundations of scleral lens fitting and complex cornea grand round cases. He has served as the National Liaison for the American Optometric Association Contact Lens and Cornea Section (AOA CLCS) and written publications for the AOA CLCS newsletter and Contact Lens Spectrum. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, Kansas Optometric Association, and Scleral Lens Education Society.
