Forms of Payment

Cavanaugh Eye Center accepts Cash, Check, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover

Payment is required prior to time of surgery. Insurance rarely covers refractive surgery, but a letter from carrier certifying full coverage for refractive surgery will be accepted in lieu of prepayment with the exception of co-insurance and deductible amounts. The patient is responsible for any balance not paid by insurance.

 

 

Flexible Spending Accounts

Many employers offer flexible spending accounts (also called a flexible benefits program) to help offset medical expenses. With a flexible spending account, you can use pre-tax dollars to pay for medical procedures, including LASIK. This can save you up to 50%. Check with your benefits manager at work to find out if your company offers flexible spending accounts.

Yes – these procedures, which correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, and reduce dependence on glasses and contact lenses, are eligible healthcare expenses for Section 125 pre-tax dollar Flexible Spending Accounts. Since most insurance companies do not include vision correction procedures like LASIK or the Visian ICL as a covered benefit, use of your Cafeteria Plan is often the only benefit you have to reduce your out-of-pocket expense for this life-changing procedure. We are approaching the end of the year and you should be aware that if you have unused money set aside in your Cafeteria Plan, you will forfeit that unused money at year end. There is no rollover of these funds.

Financing FAQs

In this section, you will find answers to the billing and insurance coverage questions that patients ask us most often.

Do I have to pay my co-payment at the time of registration?

You are required to pay your co-pay at the time of service. You will be billed for your deductibles, co-insurance and any non-covered services after we receive notification from your insurance company.

How do I know if my insurance company will cover my visits?
Coverage varies with each insurance company. Generally, we do not know whether a particular service will be covered. Medically necessary and appropriate services may not always be covered by your insurance contract. Please refer to your insurance member handbook, check with your employer or call your insurance company with questions.
When will I receive a bill?

If you verified your insurance information when you registered, you will not receive a bill until: Your insurance company has denied the claim; your insurance company has paid the claim, leaving a co-insurance, deductible or non-covered service; your insurance company has not responded to the claim.

How does my referring eye care provider get paid for their co-management fees?

If you have a referring eye care provider that is interested in co managing your refractive laser surgery, they will be paid by you, through us at the day of your surgery.  You will write two separate checks, one to Cavanaugh Eye Center and the other to you co managing doctor.  This is included in the price of your procedure.

Deer Creek Surgery Center – Overland Park, KS

From 69 Hwy, exit at 135th St and go east to Metcalf.  Turn left (north) and go to 129th St and turn left.

Take the South loop of I-435 from points East or West and exit Metcalf.  Go South until 199th St, where Metcalf splits.  Veer left just before 119th St so that you stay on Metcalf Ave (old Metcalf).  Go South to 129th St and turn right.  We are the 2nd building on the right.

Take I-70 to the California exit, east Topeka. Turn south onto California Ave. and stay on it until you come to E 29th street. Turn east on 29th Street, and go about 1 block. Turn right into Dotson Eyecare.

In House Laser Suite

Our modern in-house laser surgery suite, dedicated exclusively to vision correction procedures, was built specifically from the ground up inside Cavanaugh Eye Center with our patients' safety and comfort in mind. Exceeding FDA guidelines, our High-tech surgical suite has HEPA air filtration to remove microscopic bacterial contaminants and has its own temperature and humidity control to provide an optimal and consistent surgical environment for consistent accurate results. We have installed an uninterruptible power supply to ensure that even in the event of a power failure your surgery will be completed as scheduled.

New Deer Creek Surgical Center

It has been Dr. Cavanaugh's dream of having a new surgical center tailor-made for cataract and corneal surgery.  He has teamed up with other surgeons to build the brand new “High-tech Boutique” Deer Creek Ambulatory Surgical Center. This state-of-the-art facility is run by an outstanding hand-picked surgical staff that makes each patient's experience comfortable and convenient.

 “This is an exciting time for all of us,” Dr. Cavanaugh said. “Combining our many years of ophthalmic commitment to Kansas City with this beautiful, modern facility allows us to stay in the forefront of the local ophthalmic community and offer the latest in eye care services to our patients.”

The center's 6,000 square foot facility with two fully-equipped operating rooms was designed from the ground up to be a center of excellence for eye surgery including cataract surgery, refractive lens implants, and corneal transplants surgery.   The new location holds convenient amenities such as close-to-the-door, same level parking, and a warm and inviting waiting area.  The Medicare-approved Deer Creek Surgery Center is located just a few blocks away from Cavanaugh Eye Center at 129th and Metcalf in Overland Park.
